Kogi Council Of Ulama’u Appeals To Nigerians To Shun Protest
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Kogi State branch of Council of Ulama’u of Nigeria, has appealed to Nigerians to shun the nationwide protest slated to commence tomorrow, August 1.

The council made the call in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja .

It said protest : “is never a credible means of finding a solution to any form of challenge.

“In reality, protest breeds rancour, hatred, violence, bloodshed and destructions etc as well as disrupting peaceful co-existence among the
people.”

However, the council, called on the Federal Government in collaboration with both State and Local governments to look seriously into the demands of the sponsors of the protest.

The statement urged government to look into what is “agitating the minds of those calling for a nationwide protest with genuine hope of finding a lasting solution to both remote and immediate causes of the issues raised by the protesters.

“Government at all levels should as a matter of urgency acknowledge and address the burning issues immediately to douse the tension hanging on the nation and return to peace which is the priceless commodity for all the citizens. ”
The Ulama’u blamed  the current unfortunate situation Nigerians found themselves on both the leaders and led by their unfaithfulness to Almighty ALLAH.

“It is obvious that the present economic situation, particularly as it affects the cost of living, has become unbearable for the common man who forms the majority of the populace.

“However, where hunger, fear and poverty are the order of the day, there is no doubt that such could call for protest.

“But, this is not the best option for this country. We should be guided by the Scriptures.”

It called for prompt dialogue between the government and the protesters with the hope of finding amicable solutions to all the problems affecting us as a nation.

The council then urged all Islamic Scholars, Imams, leaders and all Islamic Organisations in the State to offer fervent prayers for ALLAH’S immediate intervention.
