By Kola Adeyemi

Lokoja – Kogi State is in the process of building two hydro-Power stations in an ambitious joint power project with the Chinese government, Idris Asiwaju Ashiru, the state’s immediate past Commissioner for finance, budget and planning has disclosed.

He made the disclosure in Lokoja on Monday while featuring on a media parley organised by the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Mr Ashiru

He said the power plants will be located in Western and Eastern senatorial districts of the state.

Ashiru who is also a governorship aspirant on the platform of the state branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said the details of the power projects will be made available as soon as talks are concluded between the parties involved.

The governorship aspirant also disclosed that the state under the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has decided to take advantage of abundance of coal deposits in the state to establish a 100megawatts coal to power plant in the Eastern flank of the state.

He said the projects will be executed in partnership with the remaining 18 state governments in the Northern part of the country.

The project, according to Ashiru, is being financed by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The aim is to deliver alternative energy source to Nigerians, particularly in the Northern region.

He said the renewable energy option was being mooted as part of efforts to create wealth and prosperity and enhance the quality of life of the people of the state and the entire north.

The aspirant then appealed to delegates to the party’s governorship primary election scheduled to hold on April 14 to vote for him so that he can continue with these and other laudable ongoing projects of Governor Yahaya Bello.

Ashiru, who stated that he has for eight years been part of the current administration said his cognate experience and exposure stand him out of others as the most qualified to continue where Bello is stopping.

He called on delegates to let the overall interest of the state and millions of its citizens guide them when casting their vote.

He said voting someone who is not well entrenched and, experienced in administration to take over from Bello will cause a monumental setback for the state and her innocent citizens. (vitalnewsngr.com)
