The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has led heads of security agencies on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and ensure lasting peace in the state.
In a statement, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the COAS was received on arrival by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, as a demonstration of strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.
During the visit, the COAS received a comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
The briefing outlined ongoing operations and proactive measures being implemented in collaboration with other security agencies to contain threats, protect lives and property, and stabilise affected communities.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also met with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens.
He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, comply with the curfew, and cooperate fully with security agencies while carrying out their lawful activities.
The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Dachung Bagos, commended the COAS for the visit, noting that the presence of senior military leadership would boost public confidence in ongoing security efforts.
The Nigerian Army expressed commitment to work closely with other security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and relevant stakeholders to address security challenges and restore lasting peace in the state.
