The Kano State House of Assembly was on Wednesday thrown into mourning following the death of two of its serving members, Aminu Sa’adu and Sarki Aliyu Daneji, representing Ungoggo and Kano Municipal Local Government Areas respectively.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Spokesman to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, confirmed the development on Wednesday via a post on his verified social media handle.
He expressed the state government’s grief over the loss and extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and constituents of the deceased lawmakers.
According to information gathered, Aminu Sa’adu fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex earlier in the day.
He was said to have been immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead.
A medical source, Dr. Usman Yahaya Kansila, confirmed the death.
Sources within the Assembly also confirmed the passing of Sarki Aliyu Daneji, the lawmaker representing Kano Municipal Local Government Area, marking a double tragedy for the legislature and the state at large.
The late Aminu Sa’adu is expected to be buried at about 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in accordance with Islamic rites, family sources said.
The deaths have sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow lawmakers, government officials, and residents of the affected constituencies, who described the deceased lawmakers as dedicated public servants committed to grassroots representation and legislative development.
