Kogi – Gunmen in the early hours of Saturday attacked the Adavi Police Station in Kogi State, killing three of the police officers on duty .
A statement from the state police command spokesman, SP William Aya confirmed the attack on the station located in Kogi central Senatorial district..
According to him, the hoodlums attacked the station from the opposite direction shooting sporadically.
Aya said they were repelled by the men on duty and operatives of the Quick Response Unit who were on special operations at the local government.
“However, the Command lost three of it’s officers during the gun duel, while the hoodlums fled with gun shot wounds as they could not get access to the station,” the statement said.
He said the state Commissioner of police, Mr Edward Egbuka, has ordered immediately deployment of a team of tactical operatives to the area to restored normalcy.
He said that the hoodlums are being trailed with a view to apprehend and bring them to book.
The statement urged the people of Adavi and the adjoining communities to be on the lookout and report anybody seen with bullet wounds to the police or any other security forces nearest to them.
Egbuka also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation to commence investigation into the incident. (vitalnews)
