Kidnappers in the early hours of Monday invaded a construction site in Ogaminana, Adavi Local Government area of Kogi State, killed one soldier and kidnapped a Chinese national.
The soldier was on security duty when the armed men invaded the site in a car and opened fire on him and others on duty.
After subduing the security men, the kidnappers went straight into the main office in the premises where they abducted a Chinese national.
The Chinese national whose real name could not be obtained immediately was said to have sustained gunshot injury during cross fire between the kidnappers and the security men.
The kidnappers, numbering five were said to be escaping in their car when they suddenly stopped at Radio Kogi Booster station, Otite, s brought out their victim and then set the car ablaze and escaped into a nearby forest.
The Radio Kogi Booster station, Otite was just few meters away from the construction site where they kidnapped the Chinese man.
A combined team of soldiers, policemen and local hunters were said to have arrived the scene few minutes later to give the kidnappers a hot chase.
The gunmen were said to have abandoned the Chinese man as a result of pressure from the joint security team.
Sources said the security operatives are still combing the forest to arrest the suspects.
“The soldiers on duty tried their best to repel the criminals, but they were over powered, by their numbers.
“There is need for the authorities to draft more men to the area and other flash points in the area,” a source said while speaking on the incident.
Spokesman of the Kigi State Police Command, SP William Aya, said he has not receive any official report about the incident.
