A former Accountant-General of Cross River State, Mrs. Rose Bassey, has been abducted by some gunmen.

Bassey was abducted alongside three yet-to-be-identified persons on Tuesday evening along Uyanga-Ikomita axis of the Calabar-Ikom Highway.

She was Accountant-General under the administration of Donald Duke.

They were abducted by gunmen who laid siege on the Uyanga-Ikomita of the busy highway by shooting at the travelers to force them to stop.

The incident happened around 5 pm on Tuesday while Bassey was reportedly on her way back from her farm at Ekpri Iko after Iwuru in Biase Local Government Area (LGA).

This newspaper also gathered that a popular cleric in the state, Evangelist Edim Edim Omin was shot at but luckily escaped being killed and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

A Cross River-based journalist, Agba Jalingo, confirmed the story on Wednesday morning.

Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Irene Ugbo confirmed Tuesday’s incident and said the Command is working to see that the four abducted persons regain freedom unharmed.
