Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, on Wednesday flagged off the distribution of food items to 1,500 widows selected from the across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The event which took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja is part of Governor Ododo’s dedication to supporting the most vulnerable members of society.
Speaking, Ododo assured widows in the state of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and that of their children.
The governor promised not to abandon them in the midst of their struggle for survival.
Ododo further assured them that he was not going to politicize issues concerning their welfare, promising to replace their tears with opportunities.

In his words : “Today is a day of deep emotions for me because, I am not standing here before you only as the Chief Servant, I am standing before you as a man who knows what it means to lack, as a man who has seen hardship, livef it and carried it in heart.
“Today, I speak to you not as the chief Servant of the people but as your brother, your friend and your ally.
“We are not to console you with words alone, we are here to wipe your tears and replace them with opportunities.
“Let me say it clearly, don’t pity the widows, I empower them.
“Yes! today we share food, clothes and financial support but beyond this, we are laying the foundation for something greater, the support system that includes Skills Training, Access to Healthcare, Small Business Funding and Education for your children.”
The governor thanked his wife, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo for taking the course of the widows in the state as a sacred duty.
He also appreciated the wife of the President, Senator Remi Tinubu for her unwavering commitment to the success and welfare of the women of Kogi State.
The governor then assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of total support for his re-election come 2027.
The Kogi State Widows coordinator, Mrs Ojone Ojoata expressed her appreciation and described the governor and his wife as amazing people, praying for God’s protection for them always.
