Lokoja – A former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin has emerged the candidate of the Accord Party (AP) for the November 11 , 2023 governorship election in Kogi State.
Jibrin emerged the candidate of the party at a special delegates conference of the party held in Lokoja in Tuesday.
His emergence followed the withdrawal of Ahmed Ibrahim who had earlier emerged the governorship candidate of the party.
Ahmed Ibrahim had at the start of the special congress publicly announced his withdrawal before delegates that came from the 21 local government areas of the state.
His withdrawal then paved the way for the former Chief of Navy Staff to emerge as the sole contestant for the governorship ticket.
The Chairman of the governorship primary election Committee, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem then called for proper election which was done by affirmation by all delegates present.
The governorship primary election had representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in attendance.
Speaking after the affirmation of Jibrin as the governorship candidate, the National Chairman of the AP, Alhaji Muhammed Nalado, commended the delegates for their conduct, maturity and patience.
Nalado charged members of Accord Party across the state to forge a common front and work together for the victory of the party in the state.
Responding, Jibrin thanked the delegates for electing him as the governorship candidate of the party.
He also thanked the national and state leaderships of the party for the confidence reposed him, promising not to disappoint them.
Jibrin said his mission is to liberate the people of the state from misrule of the past, promising to work assiduously to work with others to restore the lost glory of the state.
The candidate sympathised with state and local government workers and pensioners in the state over the mishandling of their welfare by the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello, promising to restore smiles to their face as soon as he resumes office as the governor of the state.
The Accord Party governorship candidate also promised too ensure even distribution of infrastructural facilities across the three senatorial districts.
He also promised to be fair and just in the distribution of political appointments to all parts of the state, pledging that women will get what is due to them under his administration.
