Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi Emerges CBN Acting Governor

The Acting Governor if CBN, Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi

Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi has emerged as the Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

His emergence follows the directive from the Federal Government that the CBN Deputy Governor , Operations Directorate takes over from Godwin Emefiele who was suspended as the CBN governor on Friday by President Bola Tinubu.

The President  had directed Emefiele to immediately procede on suspension pending the planned reforms in the financial sector of the nation’s economy.

Shonubi, the Acting governor of CBN was appointed as the Deputy Governor of CBN by former President Muhammadu Buhari on October 17, 2018.

He has been the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate of the CBN since his day of appointment on October 17, 2018.

Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi was born on the 7th of March, 1962.

The Acting Governor if CBN, Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi

He attended Government College, Ibadan from 1973 to 1977 .

From there, he proceeded to the University of Lagos from 1978 to 1983 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

He further obtained a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 with bias in Production Engineering from the same University.

Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi holds double Masters Degree respectively in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering, from University of Lagos.

He is a resourceful banker with over 30 year’ s professional experience.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy Governor in the Central Bank of Nigeria, he was the Managing Director/CEO in the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System PLC from 2012 – 2018.

Prior to his appointment as the Managing Director NIBSS PLC, Shonubi was Executive Director, Information Technology and Operations at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc; a member of the Board of Union Homes and Director, Information Technology and Corporate Services in Renaissance Securities Nigeria limited, with responsibility for the Group’ s IT infrastructure in Africa

Between 1999 and 2007, he worked in MBC International as Deputy General Manager and supervised their IT operational platforms, served in First City Monument Bank Limited as Vice President and in Ecobank Nigeria Limited as Executive Director.

Shonubi also had a stint with Citibank Nigeria Limited as its Head, Treasury Operations (1990-1993).

He has served on a number of sub-committees of the Bankers’Committee, including the Ethics and Professionalism sub-committee.
