Lokoja – A former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Arc Abayomi Awoniyi, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Awoniyi is dumping the PDP “after 25 unbroken years of loyal and dedicated membership and service.”
Awoniyi communicated his decision to quit the party in a letter dated August 31, 2023 and addressed to the Chairman of PDP,. Mopa-Muro Local Government chapter.
A copy of the resignation letter was released to newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday.
Part of the letter reads thus ; “Letter of Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party”
“I hereby write to tender my letter of resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party after 25 unbroken years of loyal and dedicated membership and service.
“With this resignation, I cease to be a member of the PDP.
“Kindly convey my sincere gratitude to the party faithful in Mopa-Muro LGA, Kogi West Senatorial District, and indeed the entire state, through your fellow LGA Party chairmen, for their support and camaraderie, over the years.
“I look forward to our continued friendship despite no longer being members of the same political party,” he stated.
His late father, Chief Sunday Awoniyi , was a founding member of the PDP.
However, Awoniyi, who served as Deputy to former Governor Idris Wada, is yet to reveal his next line of action.
His exit from PDP might not be unconnected with his dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the last governorship primary election of the party, an exercise he described as a “farce”.
Political observers are saying that Awoniyi is likely to join the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed November 11, 2023 for the next governorship election in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa States. (vitalnewsngr.com)
