A former Nigeria’s Inspector – General of Police, Solomon Arase is dead.
Arase died Sunday morning in aprivate hospital, Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, while receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
Aged 69 years, Arase was also a former Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC).
No formal announcement of his death has been made either by his family or the Nigeria Police Force.
Arase served from April 2015 to June 2016 as the country’s 18th Inspector – General of Police.
He was born in Edo State on June 21, 1956.
He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in December 1981 after studying Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University.
He later earned degrees in Law and a Master’s degree from other universities.
Before becoming IGP, Arase held a number of key roles, including heading the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau and serving as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State.
He also served internationally with a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Namibia.
He retired from the force in June 2016 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
