Abuja – The Nigerian Correctional Service has dismissed nine officers and compulsorily retired 25 others for various offences against standard practices.
In the same vein, four others were issued with letters of warning. A statement pushed out by the Spokesman of the Service, Umar Abubakar, an Assistant Controller of Corrections said the action was in line with the powers of the Controller General of Corrections as contained in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.
The approval for the sack and retirement of the officers were made public by the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa after approval by the Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Board( CDCFIB).
The Corrections boss assured the public that the service will not relent in ridding its workforce of bad eggs and warned that there would be no room for indolence and other acts against discipline in the service.
He further assured of the readiness of his administration to reward officers and men who are hardworking and committed to duty.
He stated that the Reward Fund Unit is fully activated and very soon, staff with exceptional performance will be invited to Abuja to receive rewards for their show of gallantry and dedication to duty.
The CG appreciates the general public for their cooperation and urged them to accept offenders that have served terms and shown enough penitence in order to break the circle of re-offending.
