Nine persons, including a village head were killed in the early hours of Thursday by bandits that invaded Kuka Babangida village in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.
Those killed included the village head Kuka Babangida, Alhaji Idris Haruna and four of his children, and four other persons in the village.
The chairman of the Local Government Council, Bashir Sabiu, confirmed the incident.
Spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu also confirmed the attack on the sleepy village.
He said the bandits attacked the village few minutes before midnight and operated till around 1:30 am of Thursday.
Villagers said the bandits took time to go from house to house in search of valuables, including money.
It could not be established whether they abducted people .
The state Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasiru Muazu who spoke on the incident through his spokesman, Hassan Dan-Alli, said : “The state is committed to the protection of lives and property of people of the state.
“We shall not relent in our efforts to ensure that our people are safe wherever they are.”
The victims have since been buried according to Islamic rites. (vitalnewsngr.com)
