Seven people were killed when bandits armed with sophisticated weapons launched a midnight attack on Magajin Wando village in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Danmusa, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday.
Danmusa said the attack occurred between 11:00 p.m. and midnight on Friday.
Preliminary investigations suggest the bandits carried out the assault to avenge the killing of some of their members during a previous clash with the Magajin Wando Community Watch Corps.
Several residents sustained injuries while attempting to rush victims to the hospital during the ambush.
“The Katsina State Government, through the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, commends the bravery and sacrifice of the Community Watch Corps for their prompt response and their continued commitment to safeguarding vulnerable communities under very dangerous conditions,” he stated.
Danmusa urged residents to remain vigilant and share any useful information with security agencies to aid ongoing operations in the area.
