Security operatives have reportedly killed Kachalla Makore, a notorious bandit kingpin, and several of his fighters, in Magami area of Gusau LGA of  Zamfara State.

Zagazola Makama, a security publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the operation was carried out on September 23.

The publication said Makore and his cohorts were travelling to recover the slain body of Sani Black, a notorious bandit leader.

Black had been killed by operatives hours earlier.

“Kachalla Makore and his men were reportedly en route to recover the body of fellow bandit leader Kachalla Sani Black, who had been killed earlier in the Dan Sadau area of Maru Local Government Area,” Makama said.

“Sani Black was neutralized in Magama Mai Rake, another notorious hotspot for bandit activity.

“Kachalla Makore rose to power after the death of his predecessor, Kachalla Damuna, and was known for his criminal operations around Kangon Garacci village in the Dan Gulbi area, also within Maru Local Government Area.”

Troops have been battling escalating banditry and insurgency in Nigeria’s northern region in the last decade.

On September 11, Makama said personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) thwarted a terrorist attack on Department of State Services (DSS) facilities in the Shiroro LGA of Niger state.

The publication added that the air strikes inflicted heavy casualties on the bandits, killing at least 28 and dispersing many more.

On September 12, gunmen reportedly kidnapped many travellers on a highway in Zamfara.

On September 13, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) killed Kachallah Buzu, a notorious bandit kingpin, and several of his fighters, in Mayanchi village of the state.

Makama reported that the military laid an ambush following reports on the movements of the terrorists.

The publication added that the troops recovered 30 motorcycles and a cache of weapons, further crippling the group’s operational capabilities, in addition to inflicting significant losses on the insurgents.

On September 14, President Bola Tinubu commended the Nigerian Army for their successful counter-insurgency operations in the north-west.

Tinubu asked security forces to maintain momentum while commending them for enhanced national security, urging persistence until all threats are eradicated completely and permanently.

The president assured them of his continued support to ensure the nation’s safety and security.
