Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Monday sworn in the 23 newly elected local government council chairmen in the state.
The newly inaugurated Chairmen were elected during the local government election conducted by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) on Saturday, October 5.
The election saw candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning all chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.
Speaking, Alia emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency for the new chairmen.
He urged them to be responsible leaders who prioritize the welfare of the citizens and remain aware of the implications of local government autonomy.
Alia advised them to work in harmony with both state and federal authorities to ensure effective service delivery.
He also encouraged them to provide strong leadership and uphold high governance standards in their councils.
The governor called on them not to disappoint the electorate who showed overwhelming support during the elections.
He stressed the need for them to focus on delivering democratic dividends to the people and remain actively engaged in their communities.
“This event marks a significant movement in the future of local government administration in Benue.
“Leadership is about service and sacrifice, not personal glory.
