Abeokuta – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, has sent his heartfelt condolences to his Kawara State counterpart, Governor AbdulRahaman Abdulrazak over the recent boat mishap which claimed over 100 lives
Abiodun described the boat accident as sad and unfortunate.
Abiodun, in a statement issued on Thursday regretted that too many lives were lost in the accident.
The boat mishap occurred in the night of Monday, June 12 at Patigi Local Government of Kwara State.
The boat was carrying 270 persons, mostly guests coming from a wedding ceremony in a neighbouring community, when it capsized and emptied all the passengers into River Niger.
As at the time of this report, 106 passengers have been confirmed dead while 144 others were rescued with various forms of injuries.
Abiodun, while condoling the government and people of Kwara State described the accident as very painful, moreso as it involved wedding guests who left their homes to celebrate with their loved ones.
He commiserated with the families of the victims, the people and government of Kwara State and the Patigi Emirate, urging them to see the occurrence as the will of God.
“Words are inadequate to express my shock and sadness over this unfortunate incident, which occurred on Monday and led to the death of dozens of people who had attended a wedding ceremony.
“It is indeed sad that a wedding ceremony could turn tragic few hours later.
“My thoughts are with the families and friends of the deceased.
“I pray that God grant the families of the victims, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Abioduns said in the statement. (vitalnewsngr.com)
