UNILAG-based Group, KB KLUB Celebrates 2022 Philanthropic Week

Lagos The KB KLUB of the University of Lagos has held its 53rd Annual Philanthropic day themed “A chance at life for the future” .

A statement by Eze Esomchukwu Anthony, Chairman, Committee On Philanthropic Activities of the KB KLUB said the day which held on October 22 featured some events.

The KB Klub is the exclusive and foremost socio-philanthropic organization of male medical students in the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

The KB KLUB was founded in 1969 by a group of seven medical students headed by renowned reproductive endocrinologist and the Secretary General of the International Federation of Fertility Societies, Professor Oladapo Ashiru.

The KB KLUB is established on the foundations of Philanthropy Academic Excellence and Social Empowerment.

According to the statement, this year’s celebration was
focused on reducing the incidence of early child mortality and improving maternal health.

“On the back of a successful 8 week online awareness campaign, the free medical outreach was one with much promise.

“Mapped at the Christ Gospel Apostolic Church, Egbeda, Alimosho  LGA, Lagos State; effective community entry and mobilization built appropriate expectation from dwellers and beyond.

“Awareness of this community intervention took an upscale turn as the KB KLUB visited Lagos Talks and Top RadioFM media houses, ringing the bells of what will
be a power packed philanthropic event, on n the 22nd October 2022, it was time to give,” the statement said.

Kbites as members of the Klub are addressed looking sharp in their jerseys, set up at the aforementioned venue and together with the Omo Adugbo Association in Egbeda, began an awareness march in the early hours of the day to lay emphasis on the need to participate.

The outreach commenced at 10am with an opening prayer from Pastor Emmanuel Olufa, Pastor
Christ Gospel Apostolic Church, Egbeda.

“Following this was a health talk on breast and cervical cancer by Dr. Faola from R-Jolad Hospital (a multi-specialist hospital dedicated to providing quality care with an improved approach to producing the best clinical outcomes).

“It was a pleasing sight to see the attention paid to this talk and the interesting questions directed at the DKT international in conjunction with the Rotaract Distrit 9110 demonstrated the practical use of HIV self-testing kits, encouraging the need to protect and test for this virus.

  1. “This was crowned with the distribution of over 500 HIV self-testing kits.

“The outreach had a flow from Anthropometry and BMI calculation, Blood sugar and blood
pressure tests, breast and cervical screening, medical consultation, drug dispensing and
distribution of insecticide treated nets.

“With dedication to assigned duties through co-operation,
successful screening of 100 women between the ages of 25 and 65 for Breast and
Cervical Cancer performed by professionals from the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

“Distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets for 50 pregnant women and childre, Community health education on the best practices to improve maternal health, breast and Cervical cancer awareness.

“At the KB KLUB, we believe this is a step in the right direction in seeing the prevalence of early
child mortality to a decline and an improvement in the state of maternal health in our region.

“That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” – Neil Armstrong.

The Klub then expressed gratitude to sponsors and collaborators for sharing in its goal of making
positive impact,” the committee Chairman said.

The KB KLUB is established on the foundations of Philanthropy Academic Excellence and Social Empowerment, and it has over the past 53 years striven towards one goal; to contribute and be a part of a wholesome society we would be proud to call ours.

KB Klub boasts of a vast array of accomplished individuals in variety of sectors in the economy and some are Chief Kessignton Adebutu, Dr Kunle Hassan, Dr
Sam Akinluyi, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, to mention a few.
