Bishop attributes Nigeria’s insecurity to poor education

Nasarawa – The Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese in Nasarawa State, Rev. David Ajang, has attributed the current insecurity in the country to poor education.

The Bishop said this on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen after his first bishopric visit to St. Matthew Parish, Kuchikau, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the inability of parents to give their children good education has led to the high number of out-of-school children, who can be misused by mischief makers to perpetrate violence in the country.

“I always believe that the key to solving the problem we have today lies in education,” Ajang stressed.

He said that efforts must be made by parents and all stakeholders to offer proper education to children and insulate them from any form of indoctrination.

“When you talk about genuine education, it is such that gives you the exposure that you desire, the exposure you need and to accept the fact that there are some differences.

“I think that is the greatest challenge we have. If you look at who is responsible, all of us are; the family is, because we have people who are not prepared, who are married,” he added.

He, therefore, emphasised the need for parents to offer proper guidance to their children before sending them to school.

“Because if parents don’t lay the best foundation, all that the teachers would do later would amount to nothing,” he said.

Ajang also spoke on the 2023 geberal election in Nigeria and advised the electorates to do the needful in the choice of leaders, in order to find relief from the present economic challenges.

On the visit, the Bishop said he was very excited with the development recorded by the church at Kuchikau within a span of three years.

“I am quite impressed about all the developments, and all these took place in less than three years.

“It shows that this is a community of people who really love God.

“My prayer is that the love which they have demonstrated, which I have seen for myself will remain with them always.”

The Bishop also inaugurated a chapel donated by a businessman, Mr Kelvin Ugwu.

Ugwu in his comment said that he built and donated the chapel to the church as a mark of appreciation to God who transformed his life from a wheel-barrow pusher to vehicle parts dealer. (NAN/vitalnews)
