Firmer Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections.
Atiku emerged the PDP presidential standard bearer by polling 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who polled 237 to come second during the party’s presidential primary election held on Saturday at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki scored 71 votes to come third while Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State polled 38 votes.
Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State scored 20 votes, former President if the Senate, Ayim Pius Ayim scored 14 votes while Diana polled one vote.
Twelve votes were voided during the presidential primary election which was held under a peaceful atmosphere.
A total of 811 delegates from 36 states and Federal Capital Territory participated in the presidential primary election.
