Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba has been selected as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
Olapegba was selected as the new Vice Chancellor of the 78-year-old university on Wednesday after a tough and competitive process involving eight candidates.
However, Prof Olapegba, was selected eventually and all other candidates congratulated him.
Until his recent appointment, Olapegba served as the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
Professor Peter Olapegba, from Igbole Quarters in Igboora, was born on 26 January 1970 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He began his education at Anglican Church Primary School, Ilutitun, in present-day Ondo State, before completing his primary education at St. Paul’s African Primary School, Lanlate.
He attended Lanlate High School and later gained admission to the University of Ibadan, where he earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Psychology.
He joined the services of the University of Ibadan as an Assistant Lecturer in 2000 and rose to the rank of Professor in 2014.
Over the years, he has distinguished himself in teaching, research, and university administration, serving in several leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, Director of Alumni Relations, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
Prof. Olapegba has received several research grants and fellowships, published three books and over 110 scholarly articles, supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students, and served on the editorial boards of reputable academic journals.
He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Psychological Association and has contributed to the growth of higher education through service on several university governing councils and professional bodies.
A devout Christian, Prof. Olapegba, the 14th Vice Chancellor of the Ubiversity of Ibadan is happily married and has children.
