Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has praised the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for recent achievements aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electricity supply and improving service delivery across the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the minister commended TCN for successfully energising a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, describing the project as a major boost to power transmission capacity within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Tegbe also applauded the swift collaboration between TCN and AEDC following the unexpected failure of a 100MVA transformer that disrupted electricity supply to several parts of Abuja last Friday.

According to the minister, the two organisations demonstrated exceptional coordination by deploying technical teams and resources immediately, restoring power to affected areas within 24 hours.

He described the response as an example of effective inter-agency cooperation and a reflection of the Ministry of Power’s commitment to delivering efficient and citizen-focused services.

“The rapid restoration effort underscores the professionalism and dedication of personnel across the power sector,” the minister said.

Tegbe noted that such actions help build public confidence in ongoing reforms within the industry.

The minister equally lauded NDPHC for bringing the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State back into operation after it remained inactive for about three years.

The facility, developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), is expected to contribute up to 375 megawatts to the national grid.

Tegbe said the revival of the power plant represents a significant milestone for electricity generation in the country and is expected to improve power supply across the South-East while enhancing the stability of the national grid.

He specifically commended the leadership of NDPHC Managing Director, Jennifer Adighije, for overseeing the successful restoration of the facility.

Reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to addressing challenges in the electricity sector, the minister assured workers and agencies under the power ministry that outstanding performance would continue to receive recognition and support.

He urged stakeholders across the electricity value chain to sustain efforts toward innovation, operational efficiency and infrastructure development, stressing that reliable electricity remains critical to economic growth, industrial productivity and improved living standards for Nigerians.

The minister’s commendation comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen generation, transmission and distribution networks as part of broader reforms aimed at expanding access to stable and affordable electricity nationwide.
