Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has formally endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as his preferred successor.
The endorsement is coming ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The governor announced his position on Tuesday after what he described as “extensive consultations” with party leaders and structures across the state.
He urged members of the APC to rally behind Yahaya Seriki during the party’s governorship primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.
AbdulRazaq described the APC stalwart as “young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded,” adding that Seriki possesses the political strength and grassroots support needed to sustain the administration’s achievements in Kwara.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress,” the governor stated.
He further said : “I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time.”
The governor noted that the endorsement should not be seen as an attempt to stop other aspirants from participating in the APC primaries, stressing that every contender remains free to test their popularity within the party.
“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party,” he said.
AbdulRazaq also clarified that his support for Yahaya Seriki does not amount to a rejection of other aspirants jostling for the APC ticket, many of whom he described as competent and capable.
“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people,” he added.
According to the governor, the race for the party ticket involves several strong contenders, but only one person can emerge as candidate at the end of the exercise.
He commended the governorship aspirants for maintaining discipline and demonstrating commitment to the continued development of Kwara State, saying their conduct reflects political maturity and dedication to the growth of the APC in the state.
