Reports have revealed how the Inspector – General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun resigned from office shortly after having a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening.
Sources said that President Tinubu asked Egbetokun to resign from his position during the meeting..
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on information and communication, however, said that Egbetokun resigned due to family issues which require his personal attention.”
Onanuga said the former police chief submitted his resignation letter on Monday.
“The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which require his undivided attention.”
A replacement is yet to be named by the Federal Government
Egbetokun was appointed Inspector-General of Police on June 19, 2023.
Before taking the top job, he served as Deputy Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department.
He took over from Usman Alkali Baba, whose tenure ended in September 2023 after receiving an extension from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
