A Kwara State High Court on Monday sentenced three persons to death for kidnapping, armed robbery and rape.
Justice Funsho Lawal who presided iver the court sentenced Patrick Afedia Adams, Tijani Usman, and Ahmed Muhammad after finding them guilty on a four-count charge preferred against them.
The offences were committed against Mr Olubunmi Komolafe and his wife, Mrs Adeola Morenikeji, at their farm in Ilorin.
According to the court, the trio attacked the couple on June 15, 2025, at Kanjile village in the Kulende area, tying them up and forcibly abducting Mrs Morenikeji to a secluded location, while demanding a ransom of N5 million.
Justice Lawal described the crime as “brazen and inhumane,” detailing how Tijani Usman sexually assaulted Mrs Morenikeji during the ordeal.
“The acts of the convicts were merciless and left the victims traumatized,” the judge said, stressing that the severity of their actions warranted the maximum penalty under the law.
The sentencing marks a significant moment in the state’s judicial enforcement against violent crimes, sending a stern warning to those who might consider endangering lives for financial gain.
