The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested three suspects over the vandalisation and theft of railway clips and nuts along the rail track corridor in Offa Local Government Area.
The arrests followed the interception of an 18-year-old, Mosahudu Salisu, by an official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation at Adeleke area of Offa on 28 November 2025.
Salisu was reportedly caught attempting to move the stolen railway materials on a motorcycle before being handed over to the NSCDC.
Further investigation by operatives of the Offa Division led to the arrest of two more suspects: 19-year-old Hassan Abu, identified as the principal vandal, and 35-year-old Abubakar Mohammed, alleged to have acted as the intermediary in the illegal transaction.
Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr Umar J. G. Mohammed, who paraded the suspects on Tuesday, said the destruction of railway infrastructure poses a grave danger to economic development and public safety.
He commended the officers for what he described as “professionalism, dedication and coordinated intelligence efforts” that made the arrests possible.
“The Corps will not relent in safeguarding critical national assets across the state,” he said.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
Dr Mohammed also appealed to residents to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to curb criminal activities in their communities. (vitalnewsngr.com)
