A man identified as Samson Ayodele, from Egbe in Kogi State, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly vandalising an electricity transformer that supplies power to Koro Town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, Ayodele, who is a repeat offender, was caught red-handed by operatives of the Eruku Police Division around 5:50 p.m. on November 3, 2025, while attempting to cart away transformer parts.
Recovered from him were three copper wire bars, one fuse, two connection wire bars, two wooden covers, two aluminium wires, several bolts and nuts, a bag of tools, and a digital scale.
The police said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that he had earlier been arrested, charged, and imprisoned in Kogi State for a similar offence before returning to the same illegal activity after his release.
Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the quick response of the Eruku Division officers and the vigilance of staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), noting that the command remains committed to protecting critical infrastructure across the state.
“Acts of vandalism that cripple essential services will never be tolerated in Kwara State.
“The command will continue to work hand in hand with communities and service providers to identify and apprehend offenders wherever they operate,” Ojo said.
The command also urged residents to be alert and report any suspicious movements around public installations to the nearest police station.
