Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the trailers ploughed into several vehicles, including four Micra taxis and a Toyota Camry.

One of the Micra cars was completely crushed, killing the driver and three other occupants instantly.

Among the victims were a couple, who had boarded the ill-fated Micra just a bus stop away at Sanyo.

The wife died on the spot, while the husband, seated in the front seat, survived with minor injuries.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) responded promptly, evacuated the deceased and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
