The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven police officers for alleged
extortion, harassment, and other forms of misconduct.

The officers were arrested on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, during a surprise checkpoint inspection ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma.

Spokesman of the command,DSP Okoye Henry confirmed the arrest of the seven police officers in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the arrests were made as part of an ongoing initiative to restore public trust and enforce discipline within the force.

“The officers were apprehended during a statewide operational tour led by CP Danjuma on June 17, 2025.

“The inspection covered major highways, including the Owerri–Onitsha, Owerri–Port Harcourt, and Owerri–Umuahia roads.

“It followed numerous public complaints about police misconduct at checkpoints.

“In a renewed effort to entrench professionalism, discipline, and public confidence, the CP inspected multiple checkpoints and engaged officers directly,” the statement said.

During the tour, Danjuma reminded officers of the core principles of modern policing: discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights.

He warned that any officer caught engaging in extortion or intimidation would face severe disciplinary action, including dismissal and possible prosecution.

The seven arrested officers have already been subjected to internal disciplinary procedures, with further updates to be shared soon.

In addition to the enforcement action, CP Danjuma also held open conversations with motorists and commuters, urging them not to offer bribes or surrender their phones for unauthorized searches.

To encourage public accountability, he personally distributed emergency contact numbers for the Command’s X-Squad and Complaint Response Unit (CRU).

Danjuma assured citizens that all reports would be handled professionally and confidentially.

The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to building a police force grounded in justice, integrity, and public service, vowing to cleanse the system of corrupt elements and restore dignity to law enforcement in the state.
