The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over property and other assets of Nok University, Kachia, Kaduna State, to the Federal Government.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede presented the institution’s documents to the Minister of Education during a formal event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, underscoring the significance of the transfer.

Following the court’s decision, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Federal Government to take over Nok University and convert it to a Federal University of Applied Sciences.

The initiative aims to foster development in Southern Kaduna, a region that has faced setbacks due to insecurity.

Vice President Shettima, speaking at the event attended by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and key stakeholders, described the handover as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and national progress.

He credited President Tinubu for prioritizing the transformation of the university, making it the first item on the agenda of the Federal Executive Council.

Shettima also acknowledged the contributions of General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall in making the transition a reality.

He assured that preparations for the university’s operation are already underway, with the institution expected to admit its first set of students by September 2025.

Governor Sani expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, describing the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences as a milestone for the people of Kaduna and Nigerians at large.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and peaceful coexistence in the state.

EFCC Chairman Olukoyede highlighted that the forfeited assets included academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center.

The transfer aligns with the resolution of the Federal Executive Council on February 4, 2025, formalizing the institution’s new status under federal control.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa praised the establishment of the university as a demonstration of the administration’s dedication to expanding Nigeria’s human capital development.

He emphasized that education, health, and social welfare remain central to President Tinubu’s vision for national progress.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa described the development as a significant moment for Southern Kaduna, acknowledging the President’s commitment to the region.

He emphasized that the university will not only benefit Kaduna but will enhance educational opportunities for all Nigerians and contribute to long-term peace in the area.
