At least 587 newly recruited police constables have graduated from the Police Training School in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The constables, recruited in 2022, include officers from both Kwara and Kogi states.

Speaking at the passing-out ceremony, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, represented by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Victor Olaiya, said the graduates are part of the 10,000 officers recruited nationwide.

He emphasized that the constables were trained in line with modern policing standards to strengthen the police force and enhance national security.

“This recruitment and training exercise reflects the federal government’s commitment to strengthening the police force by increasing manpower.

“These young officers are expected to contribute to nation-building and reduce crime to the barest minimum,” the IGP stated.

He urged the new constables to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism while shunning corruption and practices that could tarnish the police’s image.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu, commended the quality of training provided for the recruits.

He encouraged the constables to contribute to national development through effective policing.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), represented by Mrs. Ladi Akubo, noted that the recruitment process adhered to Section 153 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

She called on the constables to work diligently in tackling security challenges across the country.

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, represented by the Magaji A’are of Ilorin, Alhaji Aremu Zubairu, expressed gratitude to the police for boosting their manpower.

He urged the officers to carry out their duties in line with international best practices.

Hon. Jibril Onimisi-Abu, a member representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, also lauded the successful training program and congratulated the new constables on their achievements.

The passing-out ceremony highlights the federal government’s efforts to enhance security and ensure effective policing nationwide.
