The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over investigation into the death of Jimoh Abdulquadri, who died in police custody in Ilorin, Kwara State on Friday, December 20, 2024.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
He said IGP Egbetokun gave the order during a condolence visit to family if the deceased in Ilorin, Kwara State on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
“The IGP met with the bereaved family at the Balogun Fulani’s residence in Ilorin, where Alhaji Sadiq Atiku Fulani, the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, spoke on behalf of the family.
“While addressing them, the IGP conveyed his deepest condolences and pledged to ensure justice is served.
“No stone will be left unturned in uncovering the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident,” IGP Egbetokun assured the family.
He also emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to professionalism and respect for human rights.
“The IGP also reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct among its personnel, calling for calm and patience as the investigation proceeds.
“He stressed that the FCID has been mandated to conduct a thorough and impartial probe into the case, vowing to uphold the principles of accountability and due process.
“The visit underscores the police leadership’s resolve to restore public trust and ensure justice for all citizens,” Adejobi said.
