Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya has been elected as the new national President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He was elected on Wednesday at the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference of the union held at Owerri, Imo State.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Mike Iheagwu, while announcing the results said Alhassan polled 436 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dele Atumbi, who had 97 votes while Garba Mohammed polled 39 votes.
Alhassan, the new NUJ President was the immediate past National Vice President of the union.
He succeeds Mr Chris Isiguzo who is leaving after completing his two terms in office.
The delegates also elected
Mrs Abimbola Oyetunde, as the new Deputy National President of the union and Alhaji Adeiza Momojimoh from Kogi State council as the new Vice President, Zone D.
Both Oyetunde and Momojimoh were elected unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, expressed gratitude to journalists for their support, even as he pledged his commitment to the welfare of members of the union.
The President, who promised to collaborate with stakeholders and uphold professionalism, also honoured the immediate past NUJ President, Chris Isiguzo as a fellow of the NUJ National Council. (vitalnewsngr.com)
