Twenty-four people have died as a result of a cholera outbreak that have ravaged ten Local Government Areas in Kebbi State.
Director of Public Health in the State Ministry of Health, Abubakar Bagudu Muhammad, disclosed while speaking with newsmen.
He said the 24 people that died were among the 875 cases of cholera that have been recorded in the affected local government areas.
According to Muhammad, the state government has adopted measures to tackle the escalating cases of the disease across the state.
He stated that, out of the 24 deaths recorded, 13 are from Suru local government area of the state.
The Director attributed the outbreak disease to poor environmental sanitation, flooding, lack of portable water and open defecation.
Muhammad stated further that the state ministry of health is training clinical personnel to deal with further outbreak of cholera in the state.
He disclosed that government has provided all necessary support and funds with the assistance from donor agencies such as WHO, SAN Frontier, Unicef and others to provide adequate medication for the victims.
The Director pointed out that the state government was also in collaboration with traditional, religious leaders and medical personnel to sensitize members of the public on preventive measures against the disease.
