The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at rebuilding patriotism and reinforcing the importance of Nigeria’s National Anthem and National Values Charter.
This was announced during a press conference in Ilorin and it is part of the government’s efforts to address the decline in national pride and loyalty.
Speaking through a representative, Director of Health and Social Care at the NOA National Headquarters, Abuja, Olufemi Ayoola, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, emphasized the need to reorient Nigerians on their role in nation-building.
He quoted the President of Nigeria, saying, “We must build Nigerians to build Nigeria,” stressing that the time has come for citizens to renew their sense of duty.
“The campaign will focus on reviving citizens’ commitment to national unity, patriotism, and the values that define the Nigerian identity.
“The National Anthem is not just a ceremonial song, but a reflection of Nigeria’s struggles, aspirations, and commitment to justice and prosperity,” Ayoola stated.
The National Values Charter, outlining seven key government promises, calls on citizens to uphold discipline, patriotism, and integrity.
“Running from October to December 2024, the campaign will include town hall meetings, school outreach programs, and community forums across states and local governments.” He said
The NOA urged media, civil society organizations, and Nigerians abroad to support the initiative.
Kwara State Director of NOA, Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi, highlighted that the agency has undergone significant reforms, including digitization and capacity building.
“NOA today is vibrant and repositioned to reach the grassroots more effectively, communicating government policies and activities,” Adeyemi said
He added that the campaign encourages Nigerians to prioritize national development and contribute their quota towards making Nigeria greater.
“Let us sing the National Anthem with pride, understanding that it is a call to action for each of us to contribute to a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria,” he added. (vitalnewsngr.com)
