Tragedy has hit Ayioke area, Adavi Local Government Council of Kogi State following the death of seven members of the community from suspected food poison.

Report reaching Vital News on Monday from the area said the people started dying one after the other after eating a meal prepared from cassava flour and local soup.

It was reported that the affected persons suspected to be of the same family members ate the meal five days ago.

Few hours after eating, all those who partook started complaining of stomach pain and other difficulties.

They were consequently rushed to a nearby hospital where seven of them started dying one after the other.

The last person to die, it was gathered gave up the ghost this morning of Monday, July 30, 2024.

Reports said some people who also ate from the same cassava meal are still lying critically in hospital receiving treatment.

The people of the community are however, suspecting that the poison is likely from the soup and not the cassava flour meal.

They said their suspicion was based on one of the dead victims who did not eat the cassava meal but ate only meat.

When contacted, the state police command spokesman, SP William Aya said there was no official report of the incident.     (vitalnewsngr.com)
