Alhaji Sulaiman Jimoh, 57, believed to be the general head of the Mushin, Lagos drug cartel also known as Olowoidiogede, or Temo has been apprehended by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Jimoh, popularly known as “Olowoidiogede, or Temo” was arrested at his Mushin enclave following an initial display of resistance from him and his rabble of thugs.
Spokesman of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement.
He said Temo has been mostly elusive, and the NDLEA has intercepted big consignments of illicit substances worth billions of naira from him and his armed gangs in his Mushin enclave, which has resulted in gunfights on a few occasions.
Babafemi said : ” Some of the most recent seizures of his shipments include: 14, 524.8 kg of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of cannabis sativa, smuggled into Lagos from Ghana in two trucks and a J5 bus that were intercepted at the Ojuelegba area of Lagos early on Sunday, January 28, 2024; two truckloads of the same material, weighing 8,852 kg, that were intercepted at Eleko beach, Lekki Lagos, on May 4, 2023; and 252 kg of Loud that were taken from his enclave in Mushin on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
“In fact, during the previous two meetings, his men got into gunfights with NDLEA agents.
“The drug lord was well-known for constantly evading capture, but thanks to the Agency’s perseverance, diligence, and use of cutting-edge resources and intelligence, their coordinated efforts paid off at 10 a.m on Monday, July 22, 2024, when NDLEA surveillance teams following him were able to track and apprehend him at “Igba rere ” Street, Mushin.
“While he was attempting to flee in a Mercedes Benz SUV GLE 350 bearing the license plate 01G-300G, a reinforcement of roughly fifty operatives was dispatched to the scene right away.
“His attempt to flee by rallying thugs to fight and divert the attention of the agents was unsuccessful, and he was eventually overcome and taken from the chaotic scene while his men submitted to the anti-narcotics agents’ superior firepower.
“These agents also managed to retrieve the Mercedes Benz SUV that the suspect was discovered in.”
Reacting to Temo’s arrest, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, retired Brig. – Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the men and officers of the Lagos State Command, Special Monitoring Task Force, and other formations for their professionalism, tenacity, and vigilance.
Marwa asked them to step up the pressure on all drug cartels, no matter where they may be.
“Despite the ambush on our troops, I’m very happy that the arrest was eventually made in his enclave without any casualties.
“This is therefore a clear message to others still involved in this criminal trade of illicit drugs that if they don’t opt out now, we’ll get them because we’re just steps away from their doorsteps and more importantly they can only run, they can’t hide forever, ” Marwa said.
