FRSC Confirms Death Of 19 Persons In Accident On Oyo – Ogbomoso Road

The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC) has blamed the motor accident which claimed 19 lives on Abuja – Okene highway in Kogi State on Sunday, April 28 on dangerous overtaking and over speeding.

The state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Samuel Oyedeji stated this while briefing newsmen on the accident in Okene.

Oyedeji said it is unfortunate that dangerous driving and over speeding FRSC has been preaching against to motorists time without number were the causes of the accident.

“The unfortunate and saddened result of such disregard for road traffic rules and regulations is what we had this morning along Okene express way, ” he lamented.

Vital News reports that at least 19 persons died in the accident as a result of head-on collision involving A Toyota Hiace buses and a Dangote Articulated Vehicle along Abuja -Okene express way on Sunday morning in Kogi.

Oyedeji described the accident as very unfortunate and saddened saying it happened around 7am on Sunday..

According to him, the the two vehicles had head on collision just before Okene town, killing I9 persons including the drivers.

“The Toyota Hiace Bus was coming from Kano heading down South, while the Truck coming from Port Harcourt was heading to Obajana in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Oyedeji commended his officers and men that carried out the rescue operation at the scene of the accident.

He said that the only surviving passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The sector commander urged motorists to avoid night journey, which most time leads to accident due to stress and sleep while on the steering.
