A Lagos-based businessman, Engr. Sylvanus Babatunde Elewa has commenced the building of 12 lock up shops for traders in Aiyede-Itedo Amuro in Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Elewa , Chairman of Teramo Global Group, said the gesture was in response to a general demand by the women of the community.
He said : “Some women from the community came to greet me and I gave them money.
“To my surprise, they rejected the money that what they want is a modern market in the town.
“For women to reject money, you should know that it’s a serious challenge.”
Elewa , who is well known for his philanthropic activities in the community and beyond said : “Today, by the grace of God, we have laid the foundation of the Market and very soon, we shall complete it.
“Its first all about humanity before talking about Politics.
In a similar development, Elewa has released funds for the rehabilitation of over 36 boreholes across the ten wards in Mopamuro LGA.
He said he was encouraged to rehabilitate the boreholes when during a visit to some communities within the local government area, he discovered that the suffering associated with water scarcity within the is leaving the people with pains that is too hard to bear.
As a way of cushioning the effect of water scarcity, Engr. Elewa set up a committee to identify the faulty boreholes and immediately released funds for their repairs.
In their reaction, the people of the host communities expressed deep appreciation to Elewa for his kind gesture.
The deputy leader of Mopamuro LGA legislative council, Hon. Obasun Samuel expressed gratitude to the philanthropist and assured him of maximum support during the November election.
The Alamuro of Amuroland, Oba Alfred Modupe Aiyedogbon, explained that it has become usual of Babatunde Elewa to engage in community development activities.
His words : “its not a surprise that he is rehabilitating our boreholes across the local government because he has been engaging in community development activities and he finds joy in putting smiles on people’s face.
Elewa, however , requested that the people should reciprocate by voting massively for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Usman Ahmed Ododo during the Saturday, November 11 governorship election in the state. (vitalnewsngr.com)
