The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe has been conferred with a Doctoral Degree in Science (Honoris Causa) by the Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State.
Dr Umakhihe was formally decorated with the award on Saturday, October 21, during the combined 4th and 5th graduation ceremony of the university.
While decorating the Permanent Secretary with the award, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olayinka Akinwumi said the Dr Umakhihe was being honoured for his numerous contributions to the nation’s agricultural sector.
The Vice Chancellor particularly commended Dr Umakhihe for facilitating the establishment of an Agribusiness Incubation Centre (AIC) in the university.
He also said Dr Umakhihe was being honoured for facilitating the construction of an access road from the AIC to the university farm.
The Vice Chancellor urged other well placed Nigerians to emulate the life of service of Dr Umakhihe by using their positions to contribute to the development of the country.
Akinwumi further commended Dr Umakhihe for his dedication and commitment to national service and for providing inspiring leadership to all those around him.
In his reaction, Dr Umakhihe thanked the Vice Chancellor, management and the entire staff of the university for founding him worthy of the honour.
The Permanent Secretary then dedicated the award to the staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Families and Friends who he said have been part of his success in life. (vitalnewsngr.com)
