Nigeria’s First Chartered Accountant, Pa Akintola William Dies At 104

Nigeria’s First Chartered Accountant, Pa Akintola William is dead.

The Doyen of accounting died at about 9am of today, Monday, September 11, 2023.

He was 104 years old.

Sir (Brig.-Gen.) Charles Adisa Bossman , rtd, Chairman, WILLIAMS & MOORE FAMILY UNION confirmed his death on behalf of the family.

The full text of the statement issued by Bossman on behalf of the family reads thus ;  “GLORIOUS EXIT OF AN ICON & OLORI EBI OF WILLIAMS & MOORE FAMILY UNION, MR AKINTOLA WILLIAMS

“It is with much gratitude to God that I announce the passing of our well revered *OLORI EBI PAPA AKINTOLA WILLIAMS* who departed this mortal earth today ,11 September, 2023 at 0900am.

“He was aged 104 Years. May Papa’s precious soul rest perfectly in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ….Amen.

“Sir (Brig Gen) Charles Adisa Bossman (rtd) Chairman, WILLIAMS & MOORE FAMILY UNION.”

The statement did not give further details.

Akintola Willuams was the first Nigerian to qualify as a chartered accountant.

Born in 1919, he studied accounting at the University of London and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1947.

He returned to Nigeria and later set up his accounting firm, Akintola Williams & Co., now Deloitte & Touche, in 1952.

Williams participated in founding of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). (vitalnewsngr.com)
