continue to shape the narrative of the society with integrity, courage, and a dedication to excellence.
Isiguzo , made the charge in Lokoja on Wednesday while speaking at the grand finale of the 2023 Press Week of the NUJ, Kogi State Council.
According to him, that is the only way to honor the legacy of pioneers of the profession of journalism in the country.
He reminded journalists that the coming of ICT has further pushed news stories to travel at the speed of light, a development which he said has put journalists under immense responsibility.
“Our duty to report accurately, fairly, and fearlessly is our pledge to the public, a covenant that underscores the importance of our role in shaping public,” he said.
As the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Kogi State draws near, Isiguzo urged journalists to be fair to all parties contesting the election.
“Our duty to report accurately, fairly, and fearlessly is our pledge to the public, a covenant that underscores the importance of our role in shaping public discourse, influencing policy, and fostering social change.
“The stories we tell, the issues we highlight, and the voices we amplify contribute to the fabric of our society’s narrative,” he stated.
The NUJ President also advised them to allow the spirit of journalistic camaraderie and professional growth continue to thrive in Kogi State and beyond.
He urged journalists to be wary of overheating the polity, adding that discerning journalists should be able to separate serious politicians from genuine ones.
Isiguzo described the forthcoming Kogi Governorship Election as one that would enthrone a leader that would govern the whole state and not a section of the State, saying that promoting sectional interests would not do the state any good.
He cautioned journalists to be professional and unbiased in the reporting of the governorship election, pointing out that the Kogi election was about the people and not a section.
