Ilorin – Men of the Kwara State Fire Service have recovered the corpse of a 57year- old woman, Mrs Sikirat Jamiu from a well at Agunko compound, Adeta area, Ilorin, Kwara State
The woman was said to have slipped and fell into the well at about 6:42pm of Monday, June 19, 2023 while attempting to draw water.
Spokesman of the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident.
He said that the fire service received a distress telephone call from one Mr Muhammad Jamiu who is living in the neighbourhood where the incident occurred.
He said fire fighters immediately moved to the scene for rescue operation but was only able to retrieve the corpse of the woman.
“Firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of the Nigerian Police Officers from Adewole Division Ilorin,” Adekunle said.
Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident.
He urged members of the public to be more careful, especially women and children in this rainy season when approaching domestic well to fetch water to avoid accident such as this.
