President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the retirement of the acting Comptroller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Isah Jere Idris.
Jere’s retirement notice was contained in a memo, dated April 17, 2023 with reference number CDCFIB/APPT.CG&DCG/61/VOL.IV/74 signed by the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, Obasi Edozie Edmond.
The notice of retirement to Jere was said to be in line with an order from the Board chairman, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior.
Jere in the retirement notice was directed to hand over the duties and responsibilities of his office to the most senior officer in the Service, pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.
This was sequel to the expiration of his initial extended one year tenure as well as the dust raised by several Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), who advised the Presidency against another tenure extension consideration for Jere.
Jere Idris was appointed in acting capacity just before his retirement in April, 2022 but got his tenure extended for one year.
The extended tenure lapses on April 24, 2023. (vitalnewsngr.com)
