Abuja – A charity group has inaugurated a campaign to raise funds for the construction of nine classrooms in 90 days for poor children in Abuja.

The Coordinator, Mrs Irene Bangwell said on Wednesday in Abuja that the aim was to provide access to education for children from poorest households.

She said it would also provide spaces to out of school children and those at risk of dropping out of school due to poverty in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

Bangwell said that the KNOSK N100 A Day Charity School project was also to compliment government efforts in the education sector.

According to her, with about 18.4 million children out of school in Nigeria, it is important for citizens to come out with innovative solutions to reduce the number.

The coordinator said the school commenced classes in 2019 with 30 students and now has up to 107 students.

She said that the campaign was to address the critical challenge of inadequate space and conducive learning environment for students.

According to her, for every 30 poor children enrolled each year in the school, about 70 to100 others were not accepted due to limited spaces.

The coordinator said that their target was to raise funds to build nine new classes before September and appealed to Nigerians to support the initiative.

She added that in the long run, their aim was to build hostels, teachers residences, STEM labs, vocational center, library, clinic, innovation hub, media studio, sports and conference room.

Mr Kingsley Bangwell, Co-founder of the school announced that the Ireland Embassy had signed an MOU to build an ICT Lab for the school.

He added that two individuals had also pledged to each build a classroom.

“Everyone who contributes will have their names written on the classroom wall as a legacy,” he added.(NAN/vitalnewsngr.com)
