Lokoja – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its candidate winner of the Kabba/Ijumu federal constituency election held in Kogi State on February 25.
The acting Chairman of ADC in Kogi State , John Adaji made the call on Monday in Lokoja while addressing a press conference.
Adaji said the election was conclusive and the ADC candidate, Salman Idris emerged winner in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act .
He said the results duly signed by party agents present at the collation centre, stamped and signed by the Returning Officer, Dr Baba Ahmed was issued to all parties to confirm thst the election has been won Salman Idris of the ADC
Adaji said there was no formal declaration of the election being inconclusive by the Returning Officer, saying that if the election was inconclusive, it was the Presiding Officer that will make such announcement by law and not the Returning Officer.
He said that the INEC was yet to officially communicate to all parties that contested the election that it was inconclusive.
Adaji who said the party got to know about the election being declared inconclusive through the media urged the INEC to prevent a chaotic situation and abide by the provisions of the Electoral Act.
It also described the action of the Returning Officer as an after thought , saying that the officer appeared to have been compromised.
Adaji who displayed the results of the election before newsmen said the ADC believed that the election has been won by its candidate and will defend the victory ti the highest level of judiciary in the country should INEC decide to play funny. (vitalnewsngr.com)
