Nine persons were killed following a cult clash between rival groups in Ikata, Upata kingdom in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was learnt that the two factions in the community, who exchanged gunfire due to a disagreement, caused panic in the area.
A community source who pleaded anonymity said the incident caused panic in the area, as some residents scampered to safety.
“Most people ran to avoid being hit by stray bullets, while some remain indoors. Business owners hurriedly closed their shops and stores to avoid being caught by stray bullets,” he stated.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation was ongoing.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. It was a rival cult clash on Valentine’s day.
“Investigation is ongoing and the Commissioner of Police has deployed the tactical unit to the area
“For now, the Divisional Police Officer and the Joint Task Force have visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment of crime scene and the security personnel.
“We (Police) will ensure the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang… Our men are on the ground and calm has returned there,” she said.(Punch)
