Police on Thursday in Lokoja, Kogi State, announced that seven more students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, have been rescued from their kidnappers.
Spokesman of the Kigi State Police Command , SP William Aya confirmed the rescue of the students in a statement
This brings to 27 , the number of students rescued from the kidnappers who invaded the university’s campus at Osara to abduct the unspecified number of students in the evening of Thursday, May 9, 2024.
A total of 20 students had earlier been rescued in batches of 9, 5 and 6 by a combined team of police, DSS and traditional hunters.
Aya in the statement said the rescue operation was boosted when on Tuesday by the deployment of the Air Component of Police Security Apparatus made up of Helicopter Crew by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
He said the police air crew specially trained for Aerial Surveillance, Monitoring Team as well as Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) greatly assisted in tje ongoing rescue operation of the students.
In furtherance to the ongoing Rescue Operation and to sustain the onslaught, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM on Tuesday 14/05/2024 deployed the Air Component of Police Security Apparatus made up of Helicopter Crew specially trained for Aerial Surveillance, Monitoring Team as well as Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) to Kogi State.
“Be it noted that “it is not over until it is over” so we should not rest on our Oars, instead all hands must be on deck to ensure all are safely rescued and perpetrators brought to deserved justice.
“The Kogi State Government as well as the University Community are satisfied with the Rescue Operations so far and commended the indubitable, unassailable level of cooperation, collaboration and synergy amongst the Security Agencies Local Vigilantes and Hunters in the State,” Aya said.
He also said the Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for the deployment of the Air Component, the Security Personnel, and Vigilantes/Hunters for their show of unprecedented and undiluted patriotism and altruism, and to the good people of Kogi State and the vibrant Press, for their show of concern and empathy.
