Ibadan – Over 5,000 retired civil servants in Oyo State have being paid N18 billion as gratuity by the state government under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The state Commissioner for establishment and training, Mr Asiju Lawal disclosed this in Ibadan on Thursday while featuring on a radio programme.
He said the pensioners were those that retired from 2012 to 2019 under the Abiola Ajimobi APC-led administration.
He said steps are being taken to ensure that pensioners that retired from 2019 till date are also paid their gratuity.
The Commissioner said welfare of retired and serving workers remain a top priority of the current administration .
According to him, the present administration has also in the last three years sponsored training and re-training of many pensioners and civil servants for an improved service delivery.
He stated further that the government has also been implementing the N30,000 national minimum wage to workers in the state in spite of daunting economic challenges in the country.
The Assistant Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Oyo State chapter, Comrade Banji Koleosho who also featured on the programme gave kudos to Governor Makinde for meeting the expectations of the people of the state.
Koleosho was particularly happy with the governor for ensuring regular payment of gratuity and monthly pensions to his members.
